I would like to announce the inaugural season of the Northern Colorado Disc Golf League beginning the first week of May. This will be sanctioned league play that has been introduced by the PDGA this year. It will offer tournament style play in a slightly more casual setting. Round ratings will be generated for all that participate, even those that are not currently PDGA members. For our first season, we will stick to singles play but in the coming seasons team play will become a large part of this exciting new format. We will be stopping at all eight of the current locations for tag play, one per week. We will also play two courses not currently being utilized for tag play for a total of ten courses in ten weeks. The schedule will come out in the next week or so. Any tagmasters with requests for when we visit you are encouraged. If you know you have to be gone please let us help you cover that night. PDGA rules will be enforced with one notable exception. In parks in which it is allowed, alcohol will be permitted in league play similar to bowling and softball leagues. Each player will pay $1 each week in which they participate and half of that dollar comes back to us to help pay for the prizes and huge trophy for the season winner. The 50 cents covers PDGA expenses and lets us view ratings and talk smack for the entire season, it?s a bargain! The PDGA is offering a 30% discount for first time membership signups to encourage all those that play to join the association that helps us with all of our sanctioned tournaments.
For more information, the link to the PDGA info sheet is here http://www.pdga.com/leagues and there is extensive discussion on the PDGA forum boards as well. Here is the link to the FAQ section in the PDGA site. http://www.pdga.com/faq/leagues-0 Obviously, no one that is playing their regular tag matches will be forced to play league but they will certainly be welcome to try it! Conversely, no one playing leagues will be forced to have a tag to participate. These two fantastic options for structured play can live side by side overlapping as much or as little as each person would like.
There will be a $1 fee per person per week. $0.50 comes back to the league for year end prizes, $0.50 goes to the PDGA for bookkeeping and generating round ratings. You are not required to be a PDGA member; if you are, your ratings will be available soon, if not, those ratings will be kept for the duration of the season and if you would like to take advantage of PDGA membership discounts then those ratings would become active.
The two starred weeks, Jellystone and Conifer, will involve small extra fees. The Jellystone event will be tied to their Jellystone Classic Series. We will spend the day that Sunday as part of their second event. Details to follow on that. The Beaver Ranch course does come with a $3 per person fee. We will be playing one round of sanctioned league singles in the morning and then follow with unsanctioned doubles that will count towards league scores in the afternoon.
We have 9 singles and 2 doubles rounds for a total of 11. We will count the best 7 scores towards your league total, similar to Winter Warriors. As you probably noticed, each of these with the two exceptions above, coincide with a scheduled tag match. You can play tags, play leagues, or play both each week. I have put the start times at 5 for each week, this will allow us time to get names and PDGA numbers etc before each event and also allow time for some rules clinics, some pro clinics, and some warm up. As the season progresses, those times may move to 5:30 so stay tuned.
Thanks for your interest,
